The town is situated next to the mouth of the Trigno river and it has grown a lot in the last ten years thanks to the progressive development of the industrial area which includes big companies such as Siv and Magneti MarelliIndeed tourism has its centre on the sea promenade of San Salvo Marina.

The religious tradition of St. Giovanni Rotondo is rooted in many of the popular feasts and rites, like the Vestizione delle Madonne (dressing the Madonne), in the historical centre on the evening of 15th august. Another important celebration is St. maria delle Grazie on 8-9-10th decembre.

The National Park of Abruzzi includes a series of mountain chains from with an altitude from 900 to 2.200 mt. The mountains in the Park offer a various and interesting landscape, with the round shape of the peaks, typical of the Appennini alternated to rocky slopes, typical of the Alps.

Established in 1998, this nature reserve of 285 hectares preserves the rocky coastline between Vasto (just at 5 km) and Casalbordino. This is an area of great botanical and geological interest, which offers very good occasions to those keen on bird watching. Spring is the most interesting season, while Summer is the best time for swimming and diving.

At a distance of 12 miles from the Gargano area are located the Tremiti Islands , defined as the Pearls of the Adriatic sea because of their natural enchanting beauty. The small archipelago is made up of the islands San Nicola, San Domino, Cretaccio, Caprara and, at 11 miles from them the Pianosa island. The crystal clear waters of the Tremiti Islands attracts each year thousands of tourists.

Entitled to the acknowledgment Bandiera Blu d’Europa 2008 (Blu European flag for unpolluted sea water). And once again the Blu Flag is waving on the Vasto sea..This year too Vasto has deserved this acknowledgment, an important target which has become a regular title for this town, a pride each time as the first.
